Video Tutorial

Click the "Add Maps" button () in the top right to show or hide the map menu, then click on a map in the list to make it appear on the globe. Click the map again to remove it from the globe. Click the info icon () to show details about that map. For more information, watch the YouTube tutorial video above.

Navigation Controls

=   Zoom in.
=   Reset View (zoom out).
=   Zoom out.

Main Controls

=   Open Sidebar (this is where the fun starts).
=   Generate URL to share all currently active maps.
=   Clear Globe. Remove all maps.

Sidebar Controls

=   Scroll to map menu top.
=   Join ClimateViewer Chat.
=   Close the map menu (sidebar).
=   Filter map list - Show active/all maps.
=   Collapse map category list (close all folders).
=   Toggle Sunlight.
=   Toggle Timeline.

Map Controls

=   Load Map (display on map).
=   Map is currently loading.
=   Map is loaded.
=   Show list of map markers. Click list entries and fly to their location!
=   Show map sliders. Control map opacity, color, etc.
=   Toggle Map Details.
=   New Map!
=   Warning, Large Map - High-performance processor required, may crash on weaker systems.

Does Cesium require an install or a plugin?

No. Cesium runs without an install. It uses HTML5 standards, namely WebGL, that are natively supported by browsers.

What browsers are supported?

Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer 11 are supported and tested with every release. Safari and Opera both work as well, but are not as actively tested.

What operating systems are supported?

Cesium runs on any platform with a WebGL capable browser, including Windows, Linux, OS X, Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

What video cards are supported?

Cesium works on any video card that supports WebGL. This includes almost all NVIDIA and AMD cards made since 2004 as well as recent Intel video cards.

  • You can now share your BASE LAYER! Layers are stacked when you load them, choose a base layer from the layer menu.
  • You can now toggle display of active layers and all layers.
  • User interface buttons have been greatly simplified.
  • 3D, 2D, and the much talked about Flat Earth mode are back.
  • GeoJSON marker list height now limited to avoid massive scrolling.
  • Date Picker now moved to top bar so it is always visible.
  • Sharing your screen/map is now more interactive. You can not currently share your map location in 2D or Flat Earth mode.
  • You can once again toggle the display of the timeline slider!
  • Many coding improvements for improved speed and reliability.

  • Bing Maps Aerial (satellite view) is now set as the default background layer.
  • The timeline slider at the bottom of the screen can now be used to set the NASA satellite imagery date.
